Why participate in an EVS Technical Committee?

Some reasons for the participation of interested parties in the work of an EVS/TC are listed below.

• Possibility to influence the EVS/TC work programme and technical content of the standards.
Members of an EVS/TC prepare and approve the EVS/TC work programme – a list of standardisation projects, the preparation of which is considered important within the following accounting period. Members of an EVS/TC approve Estonian standards within their scope.

• Receiving an overview of existing standards, work programmes and new trends.
Members of an EVS/TC regularly receive working documents of European and International Technical Committees within their scope, which is one way to be informed about what is happening outside Estonia.

 • Become acquainted and informed about the detailed requirements and methods of European and international standards prior to the publication of a standard.
In addition to active participation in the preparation process of Estonian standards, a member of an EVS/TC has the possibility to participate in the preparation process of European and international standards (to participate in the standard drafting work group, to participate in work meetings, to receive information). An EVS/TC participates in the approval process of European standards within their scope.

• Co-operation with other members of the committee in Estonia as well as abroad – personal contacts.
An EVS/TC assembles persons, experts interested in standardising a specific domain.

• Do something important and remarkable, e.g. work with terminology standards.
