Standards with intranet (multi-user) licence

Since February, the Estonian Centre for Standardisation is offering the option of buying standards in an electronic format under an intranet licence. This solution is more advantageous in terms of its price and more convenient for use in those companies and organisations where one standard has multiple simultaneous users. Only Estonian, ISO and IEC standards in an electronic format can be purchased under an intranet licence from the online shop or customer service of the Estonian Centre for Standardisation.

An intranet licence or multi-user licence allows for the electronic version of a standard to be used simultaneously by the number of workstations specified on the licence. This licence allows an organisation to save standards on the number of computers specified on the licence or on an intranet or server where the standard may be used simultaneously by the specified number of computers. In addition, this standard may be printed out the number of times specified on the licence for internal use by the organisation and one back-up copy of the standard may be saved. The terms and conditions for the use of electronic standards are located here on the webpage of the Estonian Centre for Standardisation.

Multiple copies of one electronic standard purchased under an intranet licence works out to be better value for money than the same number of standards on paper. The price list of the Estonian Centre for Standardisation specifies the price coefficient corresponding to the number of licences which upon multiplication by the cost of a single copy of an electronic standard produces the total cost of the licence desired. Price coefficients are different for Estonian and international IEC and ISO standards.

For instance, when a licence is purchased for four or five electronic Estonian standards under an intranet licence, the price of a single copy of a standard has to be multiplied by two (on the price list, the coefficient of two corresponds to four and five licences). The online shop computes this coefficient automatically when you choose in the detailed view window for the product that you would like to buy the standard in electronic format and with an intranet licence. Specify the number of licences and press the “Add to the shopping cart” button. The window for your shopping cart will open, displaying the number of standards desired and their cost multiplied by the corresponding coefficient. In the shopping cart, it is also possible to modify the quantity of standards by entering the number desired in the “Quantity” window, and after the “Update” button is pressed the online shop will compute the price anew. To conclude the purchase, you have to press the button “Formalise Order” (and log in to the online shop if you have not done so already). If you wish to remove a product from the shopping cart, press the red X next to the “Update” button, and the standard will be removed from the shopping cart.

The price lists and conditions of sale for standards are available from the webpage of the Centre for Standardisation at www.evs.ee, under Products and Services > Standards and Publications > Conditions of Sale. The quickest and most accurate way to find out the cost of each specific standard is to search for the desired standard in the online shop.

An intranet licence is the appropriate, fair and advantageous way to obtain standards to suit the actual users of a standard at an organisation. Standards are subject to copyright, and their use is defined by the Copyright Act. Under the agreement for their use, the Estonian Centre for Standardisation is entitled to check the use of electronic standards. In Estonia, too, implications of the rules for the distribution of international standards will soon include the number of the users of standards being constrained by a software device.
