How to get involved in standards development

Through the Estonian Centre for Standardisation it is possible to participate in the development process of Estonian, European and international standards.

Development of Estonian Standards

Guides about the development of an Estonian standard:

  • EVS Guide 2 – “Development of an Estonian Standard and of an EVS publication”
  • EVS Guide 4 – “Structure, formulation and presentation of standards” 

Standard's template to compose an original standard

  • EVS Guide 5 – “Adoption of International and European Standards in Estonian Standards”

To start the developing process of an Estonian standard the originator has to fill in the "new work item proposal" form:

Form for commenting a document under Enquiry in DOC-format or DOTX-format.

Development of an European and international standard

Members of an EVS/TC are invited to participate in the development of a European standard according to EVS Guide 12 “Principles and procedure to appoint Estonian delegates to participate in the technical work of European and international standards organizations”.

European standards are developed according to the following rules (en):

  • Common framework for development of European standards (en):

CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations 2 “Common rules for standardisation work”.

  • European standards' drafting guide (en):

CEN/CENELEC Internal Regulations 3 “Principles and rules for the structure and drafting of CEN and CENELEC documents”.

International standards are developed according to the following guides (en):

  • International Standard’s development guides (en):

ISO/IEC Directives, Part 1 “Procedures for the technical work”;
IEC supplement (consolidated text): “ISO/IEC Directives. Supplement – Procedures specific to IEC”;
ISO suplement (consolidated text): “ISO/IEC Directives. Supplement – Procedures specific to ISO”;
ISO/IEC JTC 1 supplement: “ISO/IEC Directives. Supplement – Procedures specific to JTC 1”.

  • International Standards' drafting guide (en):

ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2 “Principles and rules for the structure and drafting of ISO and IEC documents”.
