Here we answer some of the most common questions about the publication of Estonian standards and explain how to find the relevant standard in the our e-shop.

I found several related documents. How do I know which one I need?

When browsing standards in our e-shop, you may notice different designations such as ISO and EVS-EN ISO. If you are comparing related documents, the preview can also help you determine whether a standard is relevant to your needs. Learn how to navigate a standard and use preview.

Tip: In our e-shop, we always list the base documents for the standard. This helps you see which original standard it is based on.

Why is the ISO version available, but the European or Estonian version is not?

Not every international standard is adopted as a European or Estonian standard. When it is, the time needed for adoption can vary depending on the specific standard and the circumstances of the process.

When will the Estonian version be published?

In many cases, adoption depends on whether the standard is ratified at the European level. Only after ratification can it be adopted nationally. The timing of this process can vary.

Once a European standard has been ratified, it is typically adopted as an Estonian standard within two weeks. An exception may occur if the standard will be translated into Estonian, which can delay publication, including that of the English version.

In some cases where an ISO standard is not planned to be adopted at the European level, Estonia may adopt the ISO standard directly. This depends on the decision of the relevant national technical committee.

What is the difference between the ISO, EN ISO and EVS-EN ISO versions?

The designation indicates the level at which the standard has been adopted. For an explanation of what the different designations mean, see our article on EN, ISO, IEC standards – What is what.
