This part of IEC 62321 specifies two normative, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-388 MS) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry using a pyrolyser/thermal desorption accessory (Py/TD-GC-MS), and two informative techniques, ion attachment mass spectrometry (IAMS) and liquid chromatography (LC-MS), for the determination of specific phthalates in polymers of electrotechnical products.
Normative techniques provide the test methods for the determination of 19 specific phthalates listed in Table 1. Test method for determination of dimethyl phthalate (DMP; CAS RN 131-11-3) and diethyl phthalate (DEP; CAS RN 84-66-2) are shown in Annex R. Informative techniques provide the test methods for the determination of 7 phthalates.
