This Estonian national standard requires designers and constructors to select and implement measures to ensure the airtightness of building envelope structures during the construction of new buildings and the renovation of existing ones (including reconstruction, restoration, and repair). The goal is to prevent major air leaks in buildings under construction and renovation, ensuring low air leaks throughout the building. This improves both performance and durability, helping achieve the established objectives for energy performance and indoor climate.
The standard presents a selection of measures for reducing air leakage. It is important to note that this list of solutions is not exhaustive; the air-tightness of boundary structures can also be achieved through other methods that have been studied and documented. Given the unique features of each project and the intended use of the rooms, design and construction should be approached on a case-by-case basis.
