IEC 62133-2 specifies requirements and tests for the safe operation of portable sealed secondary lithium cells and batteries containing non-acid electrolytes, under intended use and reasonably foreseeable misuse.

The main changes in the new edition are:

— separation of nickel systems into a separate part,

— inclusion of coin cell requirements,

— update of assembly of cells into batteries,

— mechanical tests (vibration, shock).

The international standard has been approved in Europe as EN 62133-2:2017 without any changes and it supersedes EN 62133:2013.
