EVS-EN IEC 60335-1:2023+A11:2023

IEC 60335-1 addresses the safety of electrical appliances for households and similar uses. The standard applies to appliances with a rated voltage not exceeding 250 V for single-phase appliances and 480 V for other appliances, including those powered by direct current (DC) or batteries.

IEC 60335-1 also covers appliances not intended for normal household use but which could still pose a danger to the public. This includes appliances meant to be used by laymen in shops, light industry, and on farms.

The standards deal with the reasonably foreseeable hazards presented by appliances that all persons encounter. However, in general, it does not take into account:

– persons (including children) whose physical, sensory or mental capabilities or lack of experience and knowledge prevents them from using the appliance safely without supervision or instruction,
– children playing with the appliance.
