2014/35/EU Low voltage (LVD)

Although the standard’s status is withdrawn, it still has the presumption of conformity in the meaning of regulation 2014/35/EU and conformance with the regulation ’s requirements can be guaranteed by using the withdrawn version of the standard. The presumption of conformity is valid until a corresponding amendment is published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

IEC 60598-1 specifies general requirements for luminaires, incorporating electric light sources for operation from supply voltages up to 1 000 V. The requirements and related tests of this standard cover: classification, marking, mechanical construction, electrical construction and photobiological safety.

Luminaires should be so designed and constructed that in normal use they function safely and cause no danger to persons or surroundings. IEC 60598-1 is to provide a set of requirements and tests which are generally applicable to most types of luminaires.

This consolidated version consists of the main text and the amendment, which can also be found separately from the standards history.
