ISO/IEC 17050 sets out general requirements for a declaration of conformity. This declaration document attests to that an object (product, process, management system, person, or organization) meets the specified requirements, regardless of the industry it belongs to.

The purpose of ISO/IEC 17050 is to provide guidelines for creating these declarations of conformity. It ensures that the declarations are reliable and can be trusted by establishing certain requirements that need to be met.

ISO/IEC 17050 doesn't specify a particular object for the declaration of conformity, but it is applicable to various types of objects across different sectors. The text of ISO/IEC 17050-1:2004 has been approved in Europe as EN ISO/IEC 17050-1:2010 without any changes.
