Standardi uustöötlus on standardi EVS 847-2:2003 "Ühisveevärk. Osa 2: Veepuhastus" edasiarendus ja kaasajastamine erinedes eelnevast nii pealkirja, mahu kui ka sisu poolest, on täiendatud olemasolevaid ja lisatud uusi peatükke. Standard rakendub ühis- või eraveevärgi veekäitluse ühes etapis - veetöötlusjaamade projekteerimisel ja ehitusel. Arvestades erialainseneride praktilisi kogemusi on täpsustatud termineid, esitatud terminite ingliskeelsed tõlked, muudetud võrguelementide seletusi jms. Standardi käsitlusala selgitab veekäitluse etappe ja nende seotust asjakohaste eesti standarditega, aidates valdkonnas orienteeruda ja pakkuda insenerile eeskuju tehniliste lahenduste välja töötamisel. Standardi pealkirjas otsustati kasutada terminit „veetöötlus“, mis ühtib standardis käsitlust leidnud teemadega.

This Estonian standard applies for public or private water supply systems for design and construction of water treatment plants.
Standard does not apply to special-purpose and industrial water treatment.
Water treatment includes water intake, water purification, preservation and distribution to customer (see figure 1). Water intake-water source selection should be in accordance with standard EVS 847-1, distribution to consumer with standard EVS 921.
Standard annexes A and B includes recommended guidance material.
