This Estonian standard applies to the design, construction, operation and maintenance of water treatment plants for water supply systems, including public water supply systems. The standard is part of the standards and guidelines covering the entire water treatment system. The aim of the standard is to provide instructions for the design and operation of water treatment plants to ensure the quality and safety of drinking water in accordance with the current Estonian legislation and European Union directives.
Water treatment includes water abstraction, water treatment, storage and transmission (distribution) to the consumer (see Figure 1). When selecting a water abstraction-water source, be guided by the relevant legislation and standard EVS 847-1, when treating water, be guided by the standard EVS 847-2, when distributing water to the consumer, be guided by the relevant legislation and standards EVS 921 and EVS 835.
